The Excellence in Teaching Award will be granted on an annual basis to a graduate assistant who exemplifies the characteristics associated with high quality teaching.
Criteria for Nomination: The candidate must have been classified as a teaching assistant for a minimum of two semesters, nominated by faculty in the department, and endorsed by the department chairperson.
Selection Criteria: The nominating department will submit the following to the Graduate Council for each nominee:
- Letter of nomination from faculty in the department that addresses teaching skills. (one page preferred/no more than two)
- minimum of one semester's student evaluations from the nominee's classes.
- A self evaluation by the nominee including any innovations in teaching, use of evaluation information to improve teaching, efforts to assist students, etc. (1-2 pages)
The deadline for the nomination is March 17,2006 with the award to be made at the April council meeting. The student selected for the award will receive $500 and a certificate of merit.
