Harrison College of Business Hosts Open House for Prospective Students High school students interested in a business-related career were invited to attend an open house on Dec. 5 sponsored by the Donald L. Harrison College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University. Nearly 100 prospective students and their parents registered for this up-close look at Southeast’s Harrison College of Business and its business programs. The open house, held in Robert A. Dempster Hall, allowed high school students to attend a general session led by Dr. Gerald McDougall, dean of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business, and special presentations by Carolyn Rainey, Chairperson, Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems, Dr. Rebecca Summary, Chairperson, Department of Economics and Finance, and Dr. Jack Sterrett, Chairperson, Department of Management and Marketing. Debbie Below, Director, University Admissions Office, provided information on the application/admissions process and financial aid, and Mishea Culbreath, Director, Business Academic Advising Center outlined the student advising process for entering business students. The open house introduced students to Southeast’s undergraduate business program, with special focus on experience-based learning through internships, live cases and the College’s many international programs. “Every Southeast business major has the opportunity to participate in an internship or study abroad program, important elements to the portfolio of accomplishments that maximizes the return on a students’ education investment,” emphasized Dean McDougall. Southeast’s Donald L. Harrison College of Business provides a supportive and personal environment for business students. “The open house gives prospective students an up-close and personal view of Southeast students and faculty in the College of Business,” said Debbie Below, director of admissions and enrollment management. “Class sizes are small and provide ample opportunity for students to become acquainted with faculty members and have a significant amount of interaction with other business students,” said Dr. Gerald McDougall, dean of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business. “Our faculty are highly qualified in their discipline and are extremely committed to student learning.” The day’s program also offered the prospective students and their parents the opportunity to tour Robert A. Dempster Hall, the finest facility in the state of Missouri for undergraduate business students. Dempster Hall offers a technology rich learning environment with access to the latest computer technology, comfortable space for individual and group study, and a professional atmosphere that promotes student-faculty interaction and helps build the confidence and self-assurance that contributes to professional success. |
