Association of Information Technology Professionals The Southeast Missouri State University student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) is associated with the national professional organization of AITP. AITP provides students, who are interested in a career in management information systems, with the ability to learn from professionals in the field of MIS. The Southeast chapter has gone on several location tours, both locally and in St. Louis, including P&G, MedAssets, the Rapco Horizon Company, Technology and Networking/ASC, Big River Telephone, the St. Louis FBI, and Maritz of St. Louis. Besides tours, we have also hosted a virtual site for the St. Louis Region Collegiate AITP Conference, sponsored a representative from Boeing St. Louis for an on-campus presentation, and will be helping host the 2010 National Collegiate Confeence.. Over the years, we have participated in National AITP Collegiate Conferences located in Kansas City, Missouri, Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, and Omaha, Nebraska. At the conferences, students have had the opportunity to hear presentations from professionals in the field including the Senior VP and CIO of Kraft Foods, the VP of Information Systems of the Wal-Mart IS Division, the Senior Vice President of Strategy at IBM, and the Director of Microsoft Learning. In the skills competitions at the conferences, our chapter has participated against individuals and teams from across the nation in areas including systems analysis and design, Web site design, network design and the student paper competition. Our network design team placed fifth among 56 teams and one of our student papers placed second. Students have also sat for, and passed, the Associate of Computing Professional (ACP) core skills exam given at the conference. This exam is offered by the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals, a non-for-profit professional society that has defined the computing industry’s common body of knowledge for over 30 years. For more information about AITP, please contact Dr. Dana Schwieger (dschwieger@semo.edu).
