The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) provides students with the opportunity to explore careers in the field of human resources and other aspects of business management.

The local chapter has been nationally recognized for its involvement for the last five years, placing it among the most active student chapters nationwide.

The local chapter interacts with local business professionals to help students establish a foundation for their future careers. Being involved in SHRM allows the student to create networks with local businesses and helps the student understand what prospective employers are seeking from college graduates. As a result, SHRM works with the Cape Area Personnel Association (CAPA) and the Southeast Missouri Human Resources Association (SEMOHRA) in the Sikeston area to help members experience the professional aspects of human resources.

Nationally, the program includes over 450 affiliated student chapters and nearly 15,000 student members. Membership fees are $35 annually for the national chapter and $15 per semester for the local chapter.
