Everyone has heard of the students who do so much they don’t seem to have time to breathe. Malia Mondy is one of those students.

An international business major, with minors in entrepreneurship and French, this Colorado Springs, Colo., native also has an active extra-curricular schedule. Malia is a member of the Redhawks Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization (CEO), the Society of Photographic Arts and Alpha Mu Gamma, the foreign language honor society. For some, that may be a lot, but Malia says she loves every minute of it. Some of her favorite times are spent in her residence hall hanging out with floor mates and taking pictures of downtown!

Aside from her busy schedule in Cape Girardeau, Malia studied in Angers, France, for three weeks. She and her fellow students spent hours wandering the city and enjoying the cafés, as well as visiting out of the way spots with her host family.

“It was great to be with a host family because they knew the awesome places that weren’t crawling with tourists,” she said.

This summer, Malia will be heading to Dublin, Ireland, London and Coventry, England. She, along with members of Redhawks Collegiate Entrepreneurs, will spend a week in Great Britain.

“It’s so interesting to spend time with people from another culture who have different cultural standards.  It made me want to learn more about myself, why I do what I do and how I can make the world a better place,” she said.

Malia hopes to travel while working on her master’s degree in counseling at Colorado Christian University.

She credits Southeast with helping her reach new heights in her skills.

“I’ve definitely been challenged to push myself harder than I really wanted, but the growth is apparent to me now," Malia said. "I enjoy knowing I can do more than I thought I could. I’m sure once I start working in business I will appreciate what I’ve learned even more.”
