Master of Science
Nutrition and Exercise ScienceThe Nutrition and Exercise Science program prepares students to provide services in nutrition and exercise interventions for the promotion of lifestyle change. The program is designed for students with a degree in an allied health field. Coursework emphasizes prevention of lifestyle diseases, exercise physiology, metabolism and research methods. Graduates can look forward to career opportunities in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, wellness programs and sports nutrition. This program is an interdisciplinary offering of the Departments of Health, Human Performance and Recreation and Human Environmental Studies. Supporting faculty have expertise in all areas of nutrition science, health education/promotion and exercise physiology.
Master of Business Administration: Sport Management Option
This program seeks to prepare students to utilize business strategies and management principles in sport organization applications. The Master of Business administration is housed in the Harrison College of Business. The 12 hour option offered by faculty in the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation is designed for MBA students who are interested in working in the sport industry to give them a differential advantage over those with a general business education or those with sport management education without business. Students take the common core courses in the MBA program and courses in the sport management option. Coursework in the sport management option emphasizes the practices, principles of sport management option in the context of spectator sports. Students are required to take courses in social trends and issues in sport, principles and practices of sport management and sport facilities in addition to an applied research project in sport management.
Master of Arts: Athletic Administration: The Sport Management program at Southeast Missouri State University is the only sport management degree of its kind in Missouri. Sport Management is a field of study preparing students to work in the sport industry. Sport managers work to produce, promote, organize and facilitate sport events, services and products. Our program combines sport-specific courses with a business administration minor. The curriculum is designed to meet the curricular guidelines for sport management established by professional organizations (North American Society for Sport Management and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.)
Our students have found work in minor league franchises, Major League franchises, USA, intercollegiate athletics, and university recreation.
The graduate program in Athletic Administration is offered as an option in the Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration and in School Administration. Both of these programs are offered through the Department of Educational Administration and Counseling.
