Career Opportunities

Forecasts for future employment needs indicate a growing demand for professionals in numerous health fields, including health management. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, job expansion in health services will continue growing in the early 21st century at a rate exceeding the average of all industries. Such growth will require increasing numbers of University-prepared health professionals.

In the health management realm thousands of businesses and industries provide health promotion and wellness programming for employees. Employment prospects are strong as increasing numbers of hospitals are providing health and fitness programs for the benefit of their service region.
 
Several of the graduates of our top-quality Health Management degree program have gone on to pursue further education.  Professional schools include Physical Therapy School at the University of Missouri and Washington University, and Logan College of Chiropractic.  Some graduates have entered an excellent graduate program right here at Southeast, while others have continued studies at Purdue University, Syracuse University, The University of Alabama, Ball State University and Indiana State University just to name a few.

Exercise Science Option

Rapid growth exists in private ventures such as health and fitness clubs which deliver fitness services and other programs.  In response to the growing demand for qualified, professionally-credentialed health management personnel organizations such as, the American College of Sports Medicine administer certifications in several aspects of health management. The Exercise Science curriculum is designed to prepare students for the highly respected American College of Sports Medicine's, Health Fitness Instructor (HFI) certification.

Health Promotion Option

Health Promotion is a preventive approach to health that focuses on improving peoples’ health status and quality of life through positive lifestyle habits and the regular use of healthy behaviors.  Graduates of the Health Promotion option are employed in a wide variety of health-related careers in corporate, community, educational, and hospital settings.  In these settings professionals work to facilitate behavior change and promote healthy lifestyles.  Specific job activities include exercise testing, prescription, and leadership; health screening and assessment; health fair organization; health program planning and evaluation; and speaking to individuals and groups about health-related topics including stress management, smoking cessation, nutrition, weight loss, and low back care.
