Heather Meyer

Southeast alumnus Heather Meyer began her studies with no particular career in mind. After changing her major several times, she developed a strong interest in communication disorders. She graduated in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree in the field and went on to receive a master’s degree in audiology from East Tennessee State in 2001.

Heather now enjoys a successful career as an audiologist. She works at a hospital on the east coast of New Zealand. Having grown up in Cape Girardeau, she never intended to work overseas, but gladly accepted an opportunity that allowed her to travel to the south Pacific.

Meyer lives in the port city of Tauranga, a large city on the east coast of North Island. She enjoys living near the beach and being only a short distance from a variety of climates, from snowy mountains to tropical forests.

“There is no other place like it,” she said.

Heather says interacting with the people of New Zealand is the most rewarding part of her career.

“I have fallen in love with this country and its people,” she said. “They are very open and welcoming.”
