The Business Themed Community/Floor is for students majoring in areas of study within the Harrison College of Business and is located on the 2nd Floor of New Hall that will be opening Fall 2013. It is designed to give students the opportunity to participate in various experiential learning and community activities of interest to business students.
Members of the Business Themed Community/Floor are encouraged (expected?) to become involved with the Harrison Passport to Success Program (http://www.semo.edu/hcb/success/40890.htm). This program helps you obtain important and critical knowledge, learn the necessary skills, and further develop attitudes and behaviors to be successful after you graduate and leave the HCB. Individuals completing the program are awarded a Certificate of Professional Advancement by the Harrison College of Business.
The Business Themed Community/Floor is limited to 32 students, of which a majority will be first year pre-business students, who will be living with upper-class business students. Any student who desires to participate in the Business Learning Community must indicate their preference for this community though the Contract for University Housing assignment process.
Returning students should participate in the Priority Sign-Up process through the Office of Residence Life. New students should indicate their preference for this community on their Contract for University Housing. All students who preference a specific Themed/Learning community will receive additional community information regarding the Themed/Learning community selection process.
There is no extra cost associated with the Themed Community Program; however, students are expected to sign and agree to a set of expectations for living in a Themed Community. This will be available at the time of Priority Sign-Up (returning students) or included in the application packet (new students).
The Office of Residence Life is proud to partner with the Harrison College of Business to offer the Business Themed Community as a housing option. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Residence Life at (573) 651-2274 or learningcommunities@semo.edu
