Southeast Missouri State University

Transfer Community

The Office of Residence Life is dedicated to providing a residential experience focused on transfer students to Southeast who, even though they are considered first year students, may be older than the traditional first year students and classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior.

The Transfer Community, located in Vandiver Hall, promotes student engagement and transition to Southeast Missouri State University. Students living in the Transfer Community will live among other students with diverse academic ambitions and interests. This learning community encourages students to become engaged in their academic experiences and encourages personal growth.  This community aims to connect students to Southeast and focus on issues common among upper-class students.

Students living in this learning community will participate in programs in a variety of programs which both aid in building a connection with Southeast and preparing for professional and graduate school experiences.

Sample Activities (activities are not final and will be planned by staff and faculty associated with the program):

  • Workshops and Lectures
    • Resume Building Workshop
    • Conducting a Professional Job Search
  • Service Projects
    • Fundraisers for Relay for Life
    • Service projects in the Cape Girardeau Community – Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Safe House, etc.
  • Academic Initiatives
    • Field trips to local and regional cultural events
    • Study groups
  • Social Events
    • Faculty dinners/dessert receptions
    • Involvement in intramural teams

To sign up for this community, returning students should participate in the Priority Sign-Up process.  New students should indicate their preference for this community on their Contract for University Housing and then fill out and return the application that they receive in the mail.

There is no extra cost associated with the Learning Community Program; however, students are expected to sign and agree to a set of expectations for living in a Learning Community.  This will be available at the time of Priority Sign-Up (returning students) or included in the application packet (new students).

The Office of Residence Life is proud to partner with the our University partners to offer the Transfer Learning Community as a housing option.  If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Residence Life at (573) 651-2274 or residencelife@semo.edu.
