Merick Hall

The William A. and Christene Merick Residence Hall (formerly new hall), located at the corner of Broadway and Henderson, is among the first buildings any visitor to the Southeast campus can see. Merick hall opened its doors for students in August of 2009 and has quickly become a popular residence hall on the Southeast campus.

Merick hall is a suite style community with double occupancy student room connected by a shared entrance and bathroom. The residence hall has multiple small living rooms throughout the building, a large game, laundry room, and hearth room overlooking the football field, study lounges on each floor, and a dining facility on the 1st floor.

In addition to the unique room layout, Merick hall is home to many of the Residential Learning Communities. The student population of Merick hall is a mix of new and returning students. Most students in our learning communities are new students, with some upper level students who were previous members of the learning community remaining on the floor to help support the program. Most beds in the new residence hall are allocated to our learning communities program, therefore there are very limited spaces for new students who want to live in Merick hall, but not participate in one of the learning communities.

For our first year and learning community floors there are specially trained Resident Assistants who work to develop a supportive environment for members of each community. The Resident Assistants and Hall Director are familiar with the typical (and not so typical!) needs and concerns of college students - and the staff is there to help.
Each room is equipped with a cable TV and phone line (phone service not included in the room rate and must be contracted for separately with Telecommunications).  There is a LAN (Local Area Network) ports for each resident of the room and wireless access throughout the residence hall. Room measurements (approximate) are - 10'11"W x 17'5"L x 10'H. Window sizes are 3’  W x 6’ H, there are two windows in the room. Mattresses in Merick are extra-long twin size (80” long).
