Visa Types
B-1
Can only be reimbursed for travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
B-2
Tourist, no work possible.
F-1
Student Visa.
J-1
Student and Scholar Visa.
J-2
Dependent of J-1, work in professional field or field of study possible with authorization/letter from sponsor.
H-1B
Job specific to the employer. Maximum stay is six years.
H-4
Dependent of H-1B, no work permissible.
TN
Professional-level work by Canadians or Mexican nationals, employer specific.
O-1
An individual of “extraordinary” ability in the sciences, arts, education, business and athletics and is intended for those individuals that have risen to the top of their field.
WB
Visa waiver program (Business); restrictions same as B-1.
LPR (Lawful Permanent Residence)
This process is also known as obtaining a “green card” or “immigrant visa.” Permanent Residence is not the same as U.S. Citizenship.
