IEP courses are taught in five eight-week sessions during the year: two in the fall, two in the spring and one during summer months. Additionally, a four-week special topics session is offered in May.
The following IEP courses meet daily for a total of 25 hours of language instruction each week.
IEP courses have multiple sections and various levels of instruction, beginning through
advanced. Students receive grades in these courses of A, B, C, D, or F. Students
must receive a grade of C or better in each class to advance to the next level in
each course. The proficiency of continuing students is assessed at the end of the
Fall and Spring semesters, and their course placements adjusted accordingly.
Normally, a beginning level student completes the IEP and attains sufficient language proficiency to enter undergraduate studies within 18 to 24 months of arrival. Students who begin the program at higher levels of language proficiency will enter undergraduate studies much earlier.
Students with advanced language skills may be permitted to "bridge" to selected university
level courses before completing all IEP language studies.
