Medical Attention

After an incidence of sexual violence, it is important to ensure a victim’s emotional and physical health. If you have been a victim, move to a place that you feel secure and comfortable. If you believe you or anyone else is in immediate danger, call 911 as soon as possible.

Once safe, you should contact someone you trust to be with you for support -- a friend, family member, or member of the staff or faculty.

The local hospitals provide medical assistance, testing for STDs and preventative medication. They also will examine you for any injuries and do testing for pregnancy if that is a concern of yours. Emergency room staff will assist you in evidence collection if you wish. Hospital staff will keep all information you share with them confidential.

If you would like to talk with an advocate prior to making a decision about medical attention, contact the Campus Violence Prevention Program at 573-986-6899.
