Tara Cooper: Journal Entry 10/12/2007 Why did I choose to attend Southeast? Finding the college that was right for me began as a daunting task. I knew next to nothing about what universities were out there for me to even consider. After months of less than eager searching, I was informed of Southeast Missouri State University by a friend. What she said about SEMO intrigued me so I started researching. The more I learned about Southeast, the more I considered it. I applied in November of 2006 and was accepted and awarded the Regent's scholarship. I was thrilled! I eventually was able to visit the campus and as soon as I arrived I was enthralled by the beauty and physique of the entire grounds. I knew then that Southeast Missouri State was the University for me. It met all my requirements for my future school: It has a wonderful academic program, it is the perfect distance from home, I was awarded a scholarship, and it is a beautiful place to begin my future. What have been my experiences as a Southeast student since I moved on-campus and classes began? My experiences thus far at Southeast have been like a breath of fresh air. I enjoy the freedom, relaxation, and friends, and so far I haven't been hit with a ton of homework. I moved on campus a mere three weeks ago and I am already a changed girl. I came to Southeast as a shy, quiet girl who was afraid to do things alone. I was a girl who was scared of being in classes without friends, who didn't want to go shopping by herself. I was a girl who did not talk to strangers. Now I am different. I am a girl who is independent and bolder than ever before. I am a girl who can walk to her car (all the way in Pig lot!) and drive around a strange town all alone. I am a girl who goes to class with a brave face and smiles at those I do not know. I am a girl who is changed and I still have four years to go. |
