Tara Cooper: Journal Entry 10/24/2007

My first few weeks here at Southeast have been pretty enjoyable.  I thought that I would be incredibly homesick the first few weeks, but I have surprised myself by how well I have adapted to being on my own.  Right about the time I was missing my parents and brother the most, family weekend rolled around. My family had planned to arrive on Friday, spend the day with me Saturday, and leave Saturday night. I had asked my mom earlier in the week if she could bring me a few food items to restock my “pantry” and she ended up bringing three grocery bags full! My roommate and I have enough food to last for the rest of the semester…

On Saturday I gave my parents and my brother a tour of campus. Everyone agreed with me in saying that the grounds were beautiful, and the sloping and sometimes rather large hills I have to walk up daily are not too bad – they add character to the campus.  Later we went downtown and looked in a few shops and sat by the river. My mom enjoyed the murals, my dad had fun taking pictures, and my brother found it humorous to throw giant rocks into the water. That night we went to Sikeston and ate at Lambert’s. All I can say is that I have never been so full in all my life. I was sad to see my family go, but all in all it was a great weekend.
