Tara Cooper: Journal Entry 11/30/2007 As I sit here on my laptop in my basement, bored out of my mind, I realize how much I LOVE living on campus and being out of my house. Do not get me wrong, I love my family and my home, but campus life can be interesting and fun. It is Thanksgiving break and I feel like I have wasted a day shopping, sleeping, eating, and playing guitar hero, but it is nice to just relax and do nothing. However, I am looking forward to returning to SEMO and seeing my friends. I haven’t talked to my roommate, who up to this point I have seen every day for the past three months, or my boyfriend in four days! Alas, sacrificing their company has its rewards; I was able to spend wonderful quality time with two of my best friends and my family. Not only has this reprieve from schoolwork been relaxing, but it has also been filling and delicious, thanks to ample amounts of REAL home cooking. My mom made her famous bread rolls and my favorite candied sweet potatoes, which I am sorry to say, do not compare to the school’s cafeteria yams. I have eaten my fill this week and am surprised that I am not unconscious in a food-induced coma. I am not surprised, however, to notice that my midsection is a bit rounder than a week ago. A combination of overeating and a lack of running prove to bring on a bad case of lethargy, or the “Thanksgiving slump.” I finally finished my two papers and project that I had to do before break, so I am now breathing a sigh of relief, but I know that it is only momentary, for I am about to be hit with the reality of upcoming finals. I do not know what to expect of finals since I have not taken them at college before, but I am not too worried. Before I have to hunker down and study I am going to spend some quality time with some of my favorite friends from Towers North, like my boyfriend Eric, and definitely his suitemate Gabe Stephen. I have discovered that living away from home and being surrounded by thousands of strangers forces me to get out of my box and meet new people. Like Gabe for instance; He is hilarious and he makes me laugh which is always a good thing. I wish I could write more, but I have a Calculus test tomorrow that I must study for. :( |
