Kayleigh Kirkland: Journal Entry 9/30/2005

Deep breath.  It is a beautiful day today.  It smells like fall.  I’m very excited to wear my fall clothes and that is okay because I am a fashion major.

I just started a job at a clothing store off campus so I am beginning to learn how to balance work and school.  To anyone in high school a mall job seems like no big deal. Now that I have gained insight to my profession and am learning about clothes and fashion all the time, a mall job means so much more to me.  I am grasping information to help me with my career and that is exciting to me.

A lot of my friends have jobs.  Texas Road House just opened up here in Cape Girardeau.  It seems like everyone on campus has a job there.  One of my friends couldn’t deal with all the time that it consumed and quit.  When I got my job, I had to make sure I was moderate with the available times I gave my manager.  That way I won’t have to quit later like my friend did.

Having a job not only has made me busy, it has given me a lot of self-satisfaction.  I feel like I am becoming an adult.  Now not only do I live on my own.  I am making money for myself to live on.  I am even more independent than I have ever been before.  This is a great feeling.  I am not asking my parents for money anymore. They will respect me more for it too.
