The writing center changed my life. This is the first semester that I have had to write a formal paper for any class. I wanted to do really well on it because it was my first paper. I decided to take it to the writing center. I didn’t even know where it was, so I asked a few friends and after figuring out that it was in the library I went on my way to discover what is called, the writing center.
I stumbled upon the place after following five different arrow signs. I found it to be cozy and inviting. I sat down at a designated desk and awaited someone to help me. I was a little apprehensive. I did not know what to expect. Some nice guy came and sat down with me and started to go over my paper and simply ripped it apart. He made comments and fixed mistakes on every line. I was starting to feel really bad about myself and my paper wondering if the class I got into was a bit over my head. Then the reader/helper/fixer/paper savior noticed my apprehension and told me that I had a wonderful paper and it was just, “SOO good.” I just needed help in the one area.
Anyhow, to make a long story longer, I felt amazing by the end of the session with the grammatical guru. He seriously made me feel good about myself and somehow made me want to do my other homework. I don’t know how he did it. I talked with a few girls on my floor about this experience I had had and they agreed and said that their personal grammar gurus made them feel good about themselves as well. I really believe that the writing center changed my life.
