Christina Vitale: Journal Entry 03/24/2008

The weeks have just been flying by. This semester’s weather has been the most bizarre that Cape, or myself, have ever seen. Floods, tornadoes, hail, snow storms, I don’t know what else there is left to happen!
Spring break really wasn’t much of a break for me. As part of Block I, education students are required to observe two different teachers for 15 hours apiece. This was tricky for me, because all of my classes are during the day and I don’t have a car on campus. The best time for me (and many others) to observe turned out to be over spring break. So, for the majority of my break, I was back in high school. I did get to see some friends from back home, some which go to the community college. After talking with them, I was really glad I didn’t go to a school so close to home that I could commute. I love living on campus. It really gives me a sense of self-identity and independence.

I’m starting to plan out my schedule for next semester. It will be another full plate 17-19 hours. It’s really tough sometimes to make sure you’re taking all the classes you need to at the right times. I’m glad I’ve been very proactive in designing my schedules. I wish I had gone to First Step the same way! I know it’s been rough for my roommate, who’s been switching around majors, to figure out exactly what classes she needs. The classes themselves aren’t anywhere near as difficult as deciding which ones to take!
The weather is finally nice this week, just in time for me to go home. I couldn’t leave Thursday night because I had to take the C-Base from 5:30p.m.-9:30p.m., so I have to leave Friday morning. If you’re wondering, the C-Base is a standardized test kind of similar to the ACT or SAT. It’s needed to be admitting into the teacher education program at Southeast. The test covers English, writing, math, science, and social studies. I’m a little worried because I’m normally a very good test taker, except for math, but this time around I feel most confident with my math section! If my scores aren’t high enough, I’ll have to retake the test before I can begin Blocks II-IV. I studied the review packets the Learning Enrichment Center provided, but I still felt surprised by some of the questions. I did the best I could though, and there was no way I could’ve prepared any better than I did (except to maybe have a better calculator!).

I hope all of you are enjoying your breaks! You can tell by my picture I already need another!
