Student to Student: Extracurricular Activities
Well, I guess by now we have gotten most of the serious stuff out of the way. Hopefully, you are prepared for your academic and residential life at Southeast. Now we can move on to what you can do with the rest of your time. Outside of class, Southeast has numerous extracurricular programs that range from athletics to hobbies to pre-professional programs to social clubs to religious groups.

Student to Student: Study Skills
“Oh no…this isn’t why I came to college!” I am sure you will say this to yourself. If not, you are a lot tougher than I ever was. I said it to myself so many times it started to occur like hunger pangs. When a paper I was not happy with writing was assigned, a common occurrence, or before a test when I had not been attending class as often as I should have been, the feelings of conflict would hit me. Of course, I was never really a great student in high school anyway. My biggest failure being that I trusted myself over my teachers, and I always tried to get away with only doing the things I wanted to do.

As the summer draws to a close, your bags are packed. Your room is stripped of its essentials - posters missing off the wall, your closet and chest of drawers only containing the fashions of a younger life and a younger you. And that is what you are really leaving behind. I’m not going to tell you what to take. But I will give you a few hints on what to expect and what not to expect.

High school commencement is over and no matter what your keynote speaker said to motivate, prepare, and invigorate your spirit, you should know that it is only up to you. The advice given while you waited to step up to that stage, hand extended, perhaps choking back tears as the flash bulbs momentarily blinded you, was more for decorum and ceremony than anything else...
