Tenecia Bryant: Journal Entry 1/9/2006

Today was the longest day of the trip.  We left the hotel around 9:00am and toured the city until about 6:30pm.  We walked the entire time (except the 20 minutes we were on the subway).  I think we walked at least 15-20 miles today.  We took the crowded subway (standing room only) to the Vatican City.  It was amazing.  The first part we saw was St. Peter's Basilica.  Then, we walked through the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel.  I was very impressed with both the museum and St. Peter's.  There was just room after room of beautiful artwork.  I wasn't as impressed with the Sistine Chapel however.  It could have been that there were so many people in it that it took away from the experience.  What shocked me most was that so many people were filming and taking pictures even though that wasn't allowed.  After leaving the Vatican, we continued our tour and went to Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, Circus Maximus, the ruins of the ancient Forum, and Victor Emmanuel.  It was great to see all those things, but we saw a lot all at one time.

Later in the evening, I grabbed some pizza at a small pizzeria near the Irish pub we visited the night before.  It was a pepperoni pizza but it tasted more like a hot dog with cheese.  We spent the rest of the evening at the pub laughing and talking about all of the cool things we've seen on the trip.
