Frequently Asked Questions

What forms do I need to complete to apply for financial aid?

You will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), most often referred to as the "Pell grant application," which is available from the Kennett office.

However, filing the FAFSA form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ can save you approximately two weeks of processing time when compared to using the paper FAFSA.

If I am a first-time student, must I be accepted for admission before I apply for financial aid? Must I be admitted before I receive aid?

You may apply for financial aid at the same time you apply for admission. However, before your file will be processed and an award offered, you must have completed admission requirements for Southeast Missouri State University.

I plan to go to college part time. Will that lessen my chance of receiving financial aid?

In most situations, the answer is "no." However, remember that Congress usually passes laws each session which can cause some changes to government-assisted financial aid. If you are not eligible for the Pell Grant, there are other forms of financial assistance, such as Stafford Loans.

Do I have to apply for financial aid each year that I am enrolled?

Yes. Your financial situation must be reassessed each year. However, after the first year you apply for aid, you will only need to complete a renewal FAFSA application. Renewal forms will be sent directly to you. This renewal form is not as long, nor as complicated.

Additional information is available online at the Southeast Missouri State University Student Financial Services - Financial Aid Website.
