Each year, the Dean of Students office and Campus Life present the Student Life and Leadership Awards. This award program is designed to recognize the achievements of students, student organizations, faculty and staff who have positively contributed to the campus community. There are nine awards given out each year and each are listed below. You can find a full description of the criteria in the Student Life & Leadership Awards Brochure. The nine awards include:
President’s Spirit of Southeast Award
- Awarded to one or more students
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Minimum of 90 hours completed
- Demonstrates leadership involvement both on and off campus
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student or a member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by the President
Provost Award
- Awarded to one undergraduate from each college or school
- Awarded to one graduate student nominated by Dean of Graduate Studies
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA
- Demonstrated academic excellence
- Nominated by a college or school with nomination approved by Dean
- Nomination should be submitted directly to the appropriate Dean for approval
- Dean will submit approved nomination to Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee
- Selected by the Provost with college or school recommendations
Experiential Learning Award
- Awarded to an undergraduate student or group of undergraduate students from each college or school who successfully participate in a learning experience that best exemplifies the experiential learning goals at Southeast
- Awarded to a graduate student or group of graduate students nominated by Dean of Graduate Studies who successfully participate in a learning experience that best exemplifies the experiential learning goals at Southeast
- The learning experience may include but is not limited to: internships (credit or non-credit), discipline-related service learning projects, research projects that result in professional journal publications, and/or presentations at professional conferences
- Nomination should be submitted directly to the appropriate Dean for approval
- Selected by the college or school based upon criteria defined by the Chairpersons and Dean
- Dean will submit selected recipient to Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee
- Award recipients will be featured on the Southeast Wall of Fame in Academic Hall
University Contributor Award
- Awarded to one or two students, one faculty member and one staff member
- Students must have a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. (Students)
- Recognizes students, faculty and staff who have contributed significantly to the University, although recipient may not hold a formal ladership position
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student or a member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by representatives of the Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee
First-Year Student Award
- Awarded to one or two students with a minimum 2.75 G.P.A.
- Completed 30 credit hours or less
- Recognizes exemplary leadership by a first year student
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student or member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by the Director of Student Transitions and First-Year Experience
Outstanding Student Organization Award
- Awarded to one or two registered student organizations
- Recognizes registered student organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the betterment of the University community
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student, advisor, or member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by representatives of the Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee
Outstanding Advisor Award
- Awarded to one or two volunteer advisors
- Must be a staff, faculty or graduate assistant
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student or a member of the faculty or staff
- Shows a strong commitment to not only the student organization but to the development of student leaders
- Selected by representatives of the Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee
Civic Engagement Award
- Awarded to one or more students, faculty, or staff who see both the moral and civic dimension of public and social issues, claim an appropriate measure of personal responsibility for addressing these issues, and have worked to make a difference in the civic life of our community through both political and non-political processe
- Requires a letter of nomination describing the nominee’s commitments and contributions written by a student or member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by representatives of the Student Life and Leadership Awards Committee
Student Life Achievement Recognition Award
- Awarded to a student, a member of the faculty and a member of the staff who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in building community at the University
- Requires a letter of nomination from a student or member of the faculty or staff
- Selected by representatives of the Student Life & Leadership Awards Committee

If you are interested in nominating someone for one of these awards, you may do so in one of two ways:
- Electronically: Go to the Online Nomination Form fill in the appropriate fields. You will be asked to copy and paste your letter into a text box. Note that formatting may be lost if submitted electronically.
- Campus Mail: Please print and complete the nomination form below. Please send the nomination form and the letter to UC Leadership at MS 1200.
