Diversity and Civility Film Series

The Diversity and Civility Film Series is an informative and engaging way to discuss hot topics and issues in a non-threatening format. Join an experience facilitator to watch a film then participate in a group discussion about the themes and topics in the film. Below is a tentative schedule for the film titles or topics, and dates. Check back as more films are being added each month!

September 17, 2012

"Remember the Titans"           7pm- UC Redhawks Room

Join Heather Brake in viewing Remember the Titans then participate in a group discussion about race, ethnicity, teamwork, and making-change.

October 8, 2012

"Dolphin Tale"                        5pm- UC Redhawks Room

Join Disability Support Series for a viewing of the inspirational film Dolphin Tale followed by a facilitated discussion about perseverance, over-coming obstacles, courage and survival . This is sure to be an insightful and educational event!

 October 24, 2012

"Waiting for Superman"           7pm- UC Redhawks Room 

This is opportunity is shaping up to be once-in-a-lifetime. In conjunction with Educational Access Programs and the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration, participants in this event will have the chance to view the film and then write an essay about "Waiting for Superman" for a chance to meet John Legend in January! Watch the film and participate in a facilitated discussion about our educational system and what can be done to make improvements.

November 12, 2012

"Crossing Borders"                 7pm- UC Redhawks Room

In conjunction with International Education Week, join Suzanne McKinney in viewing Crossing Borders then participate in a group discussion about nationality, religion, stereotypes, and cross-cultural understanding.

December 3, 2012

"Glee" (TV Series)                  7pm- UC Redhawks Room

Join Heather Brake and Southeast students in viewing clips from the popular TV series Glee. Post-film discussion topics will include relationships, sexuality and LGBT issues.
