EA003. ALEXANDER COUNTY/EDNA WALKER.

Open to students from Alexander County, Illinois. Preference will be given to a Music major with a 2.5 GPA. Deadline is March 1.

EB005. HELEN BEDFORD.

Open to Art students. Applicants must submit 10 images of artwork on DVD/CD or on slides for review, a self-addressed stamped envelope (if return of DVD/CD or slides is desired), and a one-page statement on their goals in art, interests and plans for the future. Deadline is March 1.

EB006. JULIA AND LINDEN BERRY SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a student who is a resident and graduate of one of the high schools in the following counties: Stoddard, Wayne, Carter, Bollinger, Ripley, Reynolds, Madison or New Madrid. The student must express an interest in the speech/public speaking area and must have financial need as verified by the FAFSA form. Students must be traditional students. Non-traditional students do not qualify for this award. First preference for awarding the scholarship is to direct descendants of John and Betty Glenn attending Southeast Missouri State University. Minimum GPA is 2.5. Deadline is March 1.

EB019. JIM & ANTOINETTE BIUNDO THEATRE AND DANCE SCHOLARSHIP.

Available to incoming freshman planning to pursue a B.A. in Theatre or a B.F.A. in Performance as their primary course of study. Applicant must have a cumulative H.S. GPA of 3.0 or above, enroll and successfully complete at least 12 hours of course credit each semester, and actively participate in Theatre and Dance productions by auditioning and/or accepting technical crew assignements. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation (secondary teacher/advisor and non-family community member) and must audition and/or show sample of work (individual appointments and requirements can be arranged through the Dept of Theatre and Dance). Recipients are evaluated at the end of the fall semester to determine eligibility for the spring semester. Criteria for evaluation include academic and artistic progress, and such personal characteristics as cooperation, motivation and adaptability. Open to students majoring in Journalism with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.8. Deadline is March 1.

EB024. REX & MELBA BOWERS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHP.

Will be awarded to a student who is majoring in Psychology. The department scholarship committee will select the recipient. Deadline is March 1.

EB035. ROBERT AND LINDA BURNS SCHOLARSHIP

. Awarded to an English major. First preference is for an English education major who is a graduate of Butterfield Youth Services Organization, second preference for an English education major, third preference is for a graduate of Butterfield Youth Services, and fourth preference is for an English major. EC022. CHARLES COX MEMORIAL VOCAL MUSIC EDUCATION.

Available to students pursuing an Education degree in Music with a major in Vocal Education. Preference will be given to students from Waynesville High School. If none apply, preference will be given to applicants form Cape Central or Notre Dame High School. Financial need could be a consideration, and applicants must meet all standards of the Teacher Education program. Recipient must reapply and maintain a 2.75 G.P.A. to renew. Renewal shall not exceed four years. Deadline is March 1.

EC039. JUDITH ANN CROW ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

. Awarded to a Mass Communications student majoring in Journalism. Deadline is March 1.

Open to entering freshmen who intend to major in Political Science. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Deadline is March 1.

ED017. JAMES M. DRICKEY ENDOWED.

Applicant must be an Elementary Education major or a Psychology major. Deadline is March 1.

ED019. DANIEL O. DUNAVAN PERCUSSION SCHOLARSHIP

. Scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding percussion student. Department of Music scholarship rules apply and recipient will be selected by audition by the Department of Music Scholarship Committee.

EF007. WALTER H. "DOC" FORD MEMORIAL.

Open to students majoring in Economics, Political Science, or Education. Applicant must have a "B" average. Award will be renewable for a maximum of 2 academic years. If an applicant meets the above criteria and is also a basketball player (men's or women's team), preference on selection will be given to a basketball player. Also, applicant must show evidence of financial need. Deadline is March 1.

EG029. ROBERT GIFFORD LOW BRASS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP.

Award is open to Freshman Music majors whose major instrument is Trombone, Euphonium or Tuba. Deadline is March 1.

EG031. HEATHER GREENE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHP FOR SPECIAL COLLECTIONS & ARCHIVES

. Awarded to a student with interest in working with the historic collections in the Special Collections & Archives at Kent Library, as demonstrated in an essay submitted with the student's application. Preference given to student pursuing either a major or minor in Historic Preservation. An archival project will be assigned to the award recipient by the Award Committee and the spring semester award will be contingent upon satisfactory progress toward completion of project. Deadline is March 1.

EG019. THE JANET PAAR GREENE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

. The recipient of this scholarship must be a Liberal Arts student from the State of Missouri with first preference going to either an English Education or Art Education major. Only one recipient will be selected for each academic year. Deadline is March 1.

Awarded to an incoming freshman with ACT score of 25 or above, cumulative high school G.P.A. of 3.0 or above, submission of scholarship application (available through Department of Theatre & Dance) and two letters of recommendation, audition or sample of work, pursuing a B.F.A. in Performing Arts with a Theatre Performance or Dance Option, enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours of course credit per semester and actively participation in Theatre & Dance productions. . Open to student who is a graduate of Sikeston High School and enrolled in Sikeston Regional Campus or main campus of Southeast Missouri State University. First preference is for a student interested in Performing Arts. Deadline is March 1.

Open to graduates of Jackson High School, with Music majors receiving preference. Entering freshmen must rank at or above the 50th percentile on a recognized college entrance examination and in the upper one-third of their high school class. Financial need is the main consideration. Students with college credit may apply for renewal. Deadline is March 1.

. Awarded to a resident of Cape Girardeau County or Scott County who is an art or music major. Deadline is March 1.

EL023. PAUL J. LLOYD ENDOWED PSYCHOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

. Recipient of this scholarship will be a graduate or undergraduate student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University. The recipient will have a 3.0 or higher GPA. First preference will be any undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated interest in Consulting Psychology, Positive Psychology or the Teaching of Psychology at the college level. Second preference is any upper level undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Psychology with a 3.0 GPA. Deadline is March 1.

EM008. LAWRENCE AND DONNA MARLER.

Open to Historic Preservation majors with a 2.5 G.P.A. Preference will be given in the following order to high school graduates of City of Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve County, Wayne County, Perry County, St. Francois County, Southeast Missouri region, and the State of Missouri. A separate application can be obtained from the Department of History office in Carnahan Hall, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the Department of History office by March 1.

Open to residents of any county in the University's service area south of Ste. Genevieve who plan to study Political Science, History or Government. Financial need is the primary consideration. Deadline is March 1.

Open to students majoring in music or participating in any Southeast Missouri State University musical ensemble with financial need as verified by the FASFA form. Deadline is March 1.

Open to students majoring in Journalism or Communication. Deadline is March 1.

EO009. OLD TOWN CAPE SCHOLARSHIP

. First preference to full or part-time student having direct working association with Old Town Cape or downtown in general (own or work for a downtown business or organization). Second preference to full or part-time student having an indirect association with Old Town Cape or downtown in general (immediate family relative of someone who owns or works in a downtown business or organization). Third preference to a student majoring in Historic Preservation. Deadline is March 1.

ER020. RIVERCITY PLAYERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

. First preference is to award the scholarship to a student majoring in theatre. Second preference is for a student who plans to teach theatre and is seeking a Bachelor of Science in Education/Speech and Theatre Education degree. Applications will be submitted to the University and selection will be made by the Board of the Rivercity Players Community. Applications are available in the Dept. of Theatre and Dance. . Recipient should have interest in pursuing degree in Performing Arts or Music. Faculty and/or alumni advisor may recommend a worthy student, but it is not required. Final award will be made by the Holland School of the Perfoming Arts. Application can be obtained from the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. Deadline is March 1.

. First preference is for scholarship award to a graduate of Neelyville High School majoring in English or Spanish with second preference for a graduate of Neelyville High School. If no student meets this criteria, then open to students majoring in English or Spanish. Deadline is March 1.

To be awarded to a music student. Deadline is March 1.

EW007. O. L. WILCOX MEMORIAL.

Open to participants in music. Applicant does not have to be a Music major. Deadline is March 1.

EZ001. W.H. AND SARAH BOWERS ZINN.

Applicants must be from the Southeast Missouri area, be majoring in Historic Preservation, and have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0. A separate application can be obtained from the Department of History office in Carnahan Hall, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Dept. office by March 1.

College of Liberal Arts Scholarships

0029. NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE COMMITTEE (NACC) ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP.

Open to any full-time junior, senior, or graduate student whose academic interest is in the area of cultural preservation leadership. Along with the Endowed and Sponsored Scholarship Application for Continuing, Graduate and Transfer Students, applicants should include a one-page statement documenting their interest in cultural preservation, relevant coursework completed, and activities that demonstrate their commitment to cultural preservation. The NACC will review all applications and select the recipient. Deadline is March 1.

0046. NANCY A. BRAY MASS COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP.

Awarded to a junior or senior enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University pursuing a degree in Mass Communication. The recipient will have a 3.0 or higher GPA. First preference will be given to those pursuing an option in Public Relations, Advertising or TV & Film. Deadline is March 1.

0048. CHRIS SCHNELL PHI ALPHA THETA FUND.

The Christopher Schnell Phi Alpha Theta Scholarship is open to members of Phi Alpha Theta pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. A separate application can be obtained from the History Department Office in Carnahan, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Department by March 1st.

Open to American students pursuing a major in the College of Liberal Arts or an Interdisciplinary Degree involving Liberal Arts who are studying abroad, preferably in Europe. First preference will be given to the descendants of Jennie C. Cooper, second preference will be given to children of her former students, and third preference will be given to students who are studying in England. Deadline is March 1.

Open to minsterial students with financial need.  Deadline is March 1st.

EC031. FRANCES AND CORNELIUS CROWLEY SPANISH CLUB.

This is a competitive award among club members for writing an assigned essay. An overall 2.8 general and 3.0 point Spanish GPA is preferred. There will be at least two scholarships for Spanish majors and two for minors. For details, contact the Spanish Club at (573) 651-2146.Deadline is March 1.

ED016. ANNA C. DRAUGHON POLITICAL SCIENCE.

Recipient must have financial need with a 3.0 or better GPA majoring and be a major in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion at Southeast Missouri State University.  First preference is a freshman student majoring in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion with a 3.0 or better GPA showing financial need. Second preference is any level student who is majoring in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion with a 3.0 or better GPA showing financial need.  Financial need is determined by the FAFSA. ED027. DR. JAMES M. DRICKEY PSYCHOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP.

Award will be given to a student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts majoring in Psychology, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Deadline is March 1.

ED028. EMMETT F. & GLADYS A. DUFF ART SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to student at the Sophomore level or above, pursuing a BS in Education with an Art major, and maintaining at least a 3.0 overall academic standing. Deadline is March 1.

ED033. ALBERTA MACKE DOUGAN SOCIAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP.

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student attending Southeast Missouri State University majoring in Social Studies. They must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and entering their senior year at Southeast. Student with financial need (determined by FAFSA) will be given first preference. However, if there is not a student with financial need who qualifies, it may be awarded to a student who meets all other requirements. A separate application can be obtained from the History Dept office in Carnahan Hall, room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Dept. office by March 1.

ED034. MICHAEL DAVIS JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP.

Awarded to a mass media major attending Southeast Missouri State University who exhibits academic promise, journalistic talent, and a commitment to working in the mass media industry after graduation. To qualify, students must be a minority, have completed at least 60 hours, and have a departmental grade point average of at least 2.75. Preference is given to African American students who plan to pursue careers in print journalism, but any mass media major from an ethnically diverse background is eligible for the scholarship. Deadline is March 1.

EE008. R. FERRELL ERVIN MEMORIAL.

Open to junior or senior student pursuing degree in the Department of Mass Media with a 3.5 GPA. Deadline is March 1.

EF003. BILL FERRELL SCHOLARSHIP.

Open to student majoring in Criminal Justice or Pre-Law.  Student has to be from Scott County and maintain a 3.0 GPA.  Deadline in March 1st.

EG006. GERMAN LANGUAGE.

Open to full-time German majors. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 and a minimum GPA of 2.5 in German. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage German majors to study in a German speaking country. The scholarship must be used for overseas study purposes and will be competitive. EG016. H.O. GRAUEL SIGMA TAU DELTA, NATIONAL ENGLISH SOCIETY.

This scholarship is awarded to a member of Sigma Tau Delta, National English Society and is to be applied toward incidental fees. Applicant must be a senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA in all studies and a minimum 3.0 GPA in English studies. Deadline is March 1.

EH022. HARRY HUEBEL MEMORIAL.

Open to University students with a minimum of 60 credit hours and a declared major in History, Art, Literature or Foreign Language. Scholarship is based on academic merit. Financial need may be a consideration. Deadline is March 1.

EJ002. RUTH VANAMBURG JAMES.

Open to sophomore English majors who have graduated from a Cape Girardeau County high school. Applicant must have minimum 2.5 overall GPA and a minimum 3.0 GPA in English classes. Financial need (determined by FAFSA) will be considered. Deadline is March 1.

EJ003. WILLIAM T. JENKINS MEMORIAL.

Open to University juniors pursuing a B.A. in History, a B.S.E. in Social Studies, or a B.S. in Historic Preservation with an overall 3.0 GPA and no grade lower than a "B". Applicant must submit a current transcript and three letters of recommendation focusing on his or her potential for academic success. Selection is made solely on the basis of merit. A separate application can be obtained from the History Department Office in Carnahan, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Department by March 1st.

EJ006. KEN AND JOY JOHNSTON.

Applicant must show financial need verified by a FAFSA and academic potential. Preference will be given to a member of a United Methodist Church or a person preparing for a career in full-time Christian service. Name of the church where applicant is a member must be listed on application. This scholarship requires an additional application found at www.semo.edu/pdf/sfs/johnston.pdf .  Completed form should be returned to Student Financial Services Academic Hall room 123. Open to worthy students of good moral character who are interested in and preparing for a career in which the power of speech and communication are vital factors. Financial need is considered, but applicant must have an innate gift for public speaking and oratory with a desire to improve in the development of those gifts. Deadline is March 1st.

EM035. THE DR. DANIEL MACLEAY ENDOWED FOREIGN LANGUAGE RESEARCH AWARD.

This award was established in 2002 by Mrs. Brigitte Bollerslev; its goal is to support foreign language and anthropology majors and department faculty/staff in research or professional development activities. The award may be used by students and faculty/staff for summer research projects or for one (or more) course(s) released during the regular academic year to have additional time for scholarly research e.g., to complete a manuscript or to prepare for a conference paper. The award may also be used for travel relating to Department International programs. All applicants must submit a Curriculum Vitae and a one-page outline of the research/professional development project they wish to pursue. Student applicants must submit transcripts and a letter of recommendation by a faculty of the Department of Foreign Languages and Anthropology. Foreign language majors must have completed a minimum of 24 credits in a foreign language with a 3.00 GPA in that language. In accordance with the department's award policy, faculty applicants must be tenure-track; staff applicants must be full-time and must promise to remain in the employment of Southeast Missouri State University for one additional year following the grant or repay the amount of the grant. Similarly, student recipients must promise to remain enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University and take one additional course in their foreign language the semester following receipt of the grant or repay the amount of the grant. EN003. NICKELL REGIONAL HISTORY.

Open to students with a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Applicant must be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and must have successfully completed twelve hours of history at Southeast prior to applying for the scholarship with no grade lower than a "B". Selection will be based on a demonstrated interest and experience in the history of Southeast Missouri. A separate application can be obtained from the History Dept. office in Carnahan Hall, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Dept. office by March 1.

EO003. OLIVER ORATORY PRIZE.

This is a partial-fee scholarship for upperclassmen who have demonstrated superior academic and communication skills. Application available in the Department of Communication, (573) 651-2061. Deadline is March 1.

EO009. OLD TOWN CAPE SCHOLARSHIP.

First preference is to full or part-time student having direct working association with Old Town Cape or downtown in general (own or work for a downtown business or organization). Second preference is to full or part-time student having an indirect association with Old Town Cape or downtown in general (immediate family relative of someone who owns or works in a downtown business or organization). Third preference is to a student majoring in Historic Preservation. Deadline is March 1.

ER005. RIVER BEND FRIENDS OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION.

Open to Historic Preservation majors with a "B" average who are dedicated to their field. First preference will be given to juniors, and second preference will be given to seniors. A separate application can be obtained from the History Dept. office in Carnahan Hall, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Department office by March 1.

ER009. CONSTANCE ROWE FRENCH.

This award is for study in a French-speaking country for the summer after the sophomore year, either semester of the junior year, or for the summer after the junior year and is for up to full incidental and general fees only. Applicants must have 45 credit hours completed and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. The applicant must have declared a French major or Education major with a French minor and declared an intent to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University. Financial need may be a consideration. Students not currently having other scholarships and students from other countries, states, or provinces where French is not the predominant language will be given preference. Deadline is March 1.

ER016. THE RAYMOND A. RITTER, SR. ENDOWED STUDY ABROAD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

Open to foreign language majors. First preference will be given to majors in German Language at the undergraduate level who plan to study abroad in a German-speaking country; second preference is given to all other majors in the Department, in support of study abroad. Award is based on academic merit. Applicants must complete an application and essay through the Department of Foreign Languages. For details call (573) 651-2146. Deadline is March 1.

ER014. RAYMOND RITTER, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

Open to foreign language majors. First preference will be given to majors in German Language at the undergraduate level that plan to study abroad in a German speaking country. Second preference is given to all other majors in the department, in support of study abroad.

ES016. DR. DWIGHT DEAN SHACKELFORD.

Open to undergraduate English majors who have financial need. Deadline is March 1.

ES018. CHARLES AND MARY ELLEN SHARP SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS.

Open to undergraduate, non-traditional students over the age of 20 who have maintained an overall GPA of 2.75 and achieved a 3.0 GPA for the semester prior to submitting the application. Preference will be given to self supporting students with at least one dependent, financial need, and academic merit, majoring in History, English, or any other area of Communication. Deadline is March 1.

ES041. MYRTLE GOODIN SMITH MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Open to a student with a minimum 3.0 GPA in all university courses taken, who has a demonstrated interest in, and is involved in studying the history of Southeast Missouri; who is either an undergraduate student entering his/her Junior or Senior year with a minimum of twelve (12) hours of history credit at Southeast, or a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts degree in historical research. The selected candidate will be required to submit historical research on an assigned topic in the history of Southeast Missouri selected by the Director of the Center for Regional History and agreed to by the Director and the recipient. Deadline is March 1.

EV008. BILL AND SHIRLEY SHEMWELL VIRDON SCHOLARSHIP.

First preference is for scholarship award to a graduate of Neelyville High School majoring in English or Spanish with second preference for a graduate of Neelyville High School. If no student meets this criteria, then open to students majoring in English or Spanish. Deadline is March 1.

EW014. ELGIE WOODS FOSTER DAR SCHOLARSHIP.

Open to undergraduate students with 15 credit hours and a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Applicant must be enrolled in History or the Historic Preservation program with an emphasis in local/regional history and have a FAFSA on file. A separate application can be obtained from the History Department Office in Carnahan, Room 311. Applications must be returned to the History Department by March 1st.
