Video Production Major is Outstanding Student Leader
When Matt Hickey started attending Southeast, he didn’t waste any time getting involved on campus. His freshman year, Matt was recognized with the Student Life and Leadership Award for Outstanding Leadership for a first-year student. Now a junior, Matt is an integral part of the Southeast student body. He serves as the president for Student Activities Council and is a representative on Student Government. In addition, Matt is a Presidential Ambassador, a member of Rowdy Crowd and a Community Advisor in Towers North.
Even with all of his activities, Matt still finds time to spend on his classes. As a video production major, he says he enjoys creating and editing video for the Mass Communications classes.
“The equipment is great and the people are very helpful,” Matt says.
After graduating in 2008, Matt says he would love to attend film school on the West Coast.
Matt says that his time at Southeast has contributed to his success both in and out of the classroom.
“I feel that Southeast has offered to me more than just school and book smarts. I feel that the small class sizes and small campus allowed me to get to know my professors and the administration, which is rare for large universities.”
In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing the guitar and volleyball. He also attends many Southeast athletic events, in particular women’s volleyball and men’s basketball. His favorite thing to do in Cape Girardeau is go to the river and eat ice cream.
Matt’s advice to future Southeast students is “to get involved and enjoy the college experience. This is the only time in your life you get to do things like this.”
