Known around campus for his chromed-out purple pickup truck, Dr. David Reinheimer is a confessed ‘80s hair metal fan who even appears in a music video by Tesla. He has two dogs, one of whom, Fred, is “mostly blind, mostly deaf and diabetic.” When not performing duties for his department, Dr. Reinheimer rips through video games.

“I play video games mostly to analyze interface — multimedia design,” he said, alleging that he beat “Grand Theft Auto, Vice City” in less than three months, and the first seven levels of “Halo” in six hours. “Other than that,” Reinheimer said, “I sit around and do my homework.”

Reinheimer joined us in the fall of 1997 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English. Since 2000 he’s split between University Studies and the Department of English. Dr. Reinheimer’s outstanding teaching record is backed up by extremely positive student evaluations. He’s a popular advisor to both graduate and undergraduate students.

A valuable resource in the areas of traditional curricular development the development of Web courses, he has co-authored From Sources to Purpose: A Guide to Researched Writing. Since 1998, he’s made 16 conference presentations, facilitated 13 campus workshops for the Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning and has been awarded three Funding for Results grants. He’s chair of his department’s Outcomes Assessment Committee and serves on 11 other department committees. Dr. Reinheimer directs writing assessment in the Writing Outcomes Program, supervising writing placement, equivalency, EN140 exit exams and the University’s WP003 exam. He also manages the Department of English’s Web site.
