The Rare Book Room, located on the main floor of Kent Library, houses several collections of unique and valuable books and manuscripts, which are administered through Special Collections and Archives. Researchers can make appointments to use Rare Book Room materials by contacting the Special Collections Librarian at (573) 986-7446. In-house presentations to university classes and community groups on the Rare Book Room collections can also be scheduled by contacting the Special Collections Librarian. Among the collections housed in the Rare Book Room are the:

  • Charles L. Harrison Collection
    The Charles Luce Harrison Collection contains over 800 rare or unusual books, reflecting the scribal and print culture since the 13th through the early 20th centuries. The collection contains numerous examples of fine printing, fine binding, illustrated works, first editions, association and signed copies, and several pre-1450 manuscripts.   • Louis Daniel Brodsky-William Faulkner Collection
    The Rare Book Room houses one of the world’s four largest collections of material on Nobel Prize winning novelist William Faulkner. Assembled by St. Louis poet and book publisher Louis Daniel Brodsky, Southeast Missouri State University acquired the collection in 1989.
