Edinburgh, Day 8: Fireworks!
Brooke Privett
Day 8. Today started off very interesting. We were told last night that we had to be in our flats at 1:00 a.m., which is very reasonable considering that we had a double performance tonight. Well, some people didn’t show up until 5:00am and were loud and disturbing other people. I sure didn’t sleep any after 5:00! Most people would find this irrelevant, but here’s the kicker…We’ve been put on a 12:00 curfew for the rest of the week! It doesn’t really affect me that much, it’s just funny to be 23 years old, have paid for this trip, and have a curfew.
A lot of people are mad though, because they usually go out after the show to get a pizza and now they don’t have the time. Our meal times are a little off because we have until 11:00 a.m. to eat brunch and until 6:00 to eat dinner, so if anybody sleeps through the meals, they have to go a very long time without eating, which is the reason for the pizza. I have learned to stay out of the path of hungry, tired college kids! Save the drama fo yo mama!!
Anyhoo, we have two performances on Saturdays, which include a fireworks show after the second performance. Those fireworks were amazing tonight; they’re even choreographed to music! This is something you might try to watch for on the castle’s live webcam. You would need to watch on Saturday’s around 5:00 p.m.
After the show, I and two others were invited up to the V.I.P. box to talk with Jane Stevens, who is the provost of SEMO. She loved the show, and I thanked her and her husband for making the trip. She said she was just in awe that we were part of a performance of this caliber, and that we definitely held our own! Since we went up to the lounge, we missed the buses, so a guy who works for the Tattoo gave us a ride back. It was so weird seeing the front passenger on the left side of the car! I fulfilled one of my objectives, which was riding in a car while I’m over here. I don’t think I would ever be able to get a license here!
Well, I’m still pretty tired from not sleeping much last night, and we have a big parade tomorrow, so I’m going to bed.
