Edinburgh: Scotland Golf!
Brooke Privett
Golfers of the world, time to get jealous!!! This morning, 3 guys, Dr. Conger, and I set off for our 9:00 tee time at Swantson Golf Course. This place is GORGEOUS!! It sets on one of the highest points in Edinburgh and you can see out for miles, even into the North Sea. Conger got us a great deal! I paid 15 pounds total for green fees, cart rental, and club rental!!
I thought I would be renting clubs that looked like they came from a flee market. Not hardly!! As we got there a man was UNWRAPPING the new “Ram” brand clubs that we would be using. He saw me and said “One minute Miss.” He came back with a new set of Women’s Ram clubs. This was quite a treat for me because I have never gotten to play with women’s clubs. They were sooo pretty, the boys were a bit jealous I think! If you remember Crest for Kids toothpaste, they were that color. The shafts and the club heads were a very sparkly royal blue. I’m in love! I played well with them, too! (Mom and Dad: Hint Hint, Wink Wink! Haha!)
I didn’t have the best score though because this was a very tough course to play and I didn’t have my driver. The greens are extremely fast and if you go anywhere in the rough, just kiss that ball good bye because you won’t find it. That was a bit frustrating, but I didn’t care because I was in Scotland playing golf!
We started back up with our Tattoo performances tonight. It was interesting because we wore our new white pants for the first time. Everybody says they are huge on them (mine especially) and that we all look like the “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!”
When we arrived back to the dorms, we were in for a real treat. You see, we don’t have any television access, so we try to find alternative ways to entertain ourselves. There is a group of Canadian Highland Spring Dancers staying here with us, and they decided to put on a talent show tonight out in the courtyard. All the acts were great, but one really stood out: “So you think you can do an entire Tattoo in 2 minutes.” They started out by imitating the rifle drill team from Norway. They even had their hair put up to look like Norway’s hats!
They then did bits of pieces from everybody’s acts, but then topped it off when they did our “crunk” section. They were all very funny! They are going to try to get some of us in on the next talent show. I have been working on Scotland the Brave on my hands. (Those who know me know that’s my special talent!) Tomorrow we are heading to Glasgow for a parade and a stand still performance!!
