The Golden Eagles Marching Band practicing in rehearsal.

Edinburgh: Back to Basics
Brooke Privett

Yo! The BBC begins filming this week so we have to be at the top of our game, so Mr. Bernhardt had it arranged for us to have a rehearsal today at the barracks. We left at noon, arrived at the barracks and immediately began relearning the fundamentals of marching. I mean, we didn’t even carry our instruments! Now that’s basic! It’s funny to think we’ve been doing this show for over two weeks and we’re out there learning how to march and align ourselves, but we needed it.

We then went back and practiced bits and pieces of the music. We were there for two hours in the rain, but it paid off because the show was great tonight and we sounded the best we have ever sounded. One of the producers even said to Mr. B, “You rehearsed, didn’t you.” All of the BBC people were there tonight but they don’t begin filming until tomorrow and they will continue through Thursday. That is going to take some major editing! From what I hear, the Tattoo performance will air on August 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Scotland time, which is 1:30 p.m. your time. If you have digital cable or satellite, you should get the BBC channel. Since I don’t exactly know how they will air it, you may want to look up the BBC channel on your TV guide and skip through to that date and see when exactly it comes on. If you have a DVR, you should be able to set it to record. Oh, one more thing…I learned how to play Speed!!!
