The Missouri Statewide Early Literacy Intervention Program (MSELIP) is designed to ensure that all Missouri children will be able to read by the third grade. MSELIP includes a Reading Recovery® component, an early literacy group component and professional development for classroom teachers.
Reading Recovery® is a highly effective, short-term intervention of one-to-one tutoring for first graders having trouble learning to read and write. Individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery® teacher. Nearly 80 percent of students who complete the full series of lessons can read and write within the average range of performance in their class.

Under the Missouri Statewide Early Literacy Intervention Program (MSELIP), the early literacy group component teaches trained Reading Recovery® teachers to work with groups of children.
