“Emily Booth: Transitions Spaces Series 09.2,” opens Nov. 6, in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum, at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 6 with a gallery talk by the artist at 5 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display through Jan. 17, 2010.

Emily Booth’s exhibition in the Transition Space consists of 5 new paintings combining ideas of the role of the individual with more recent ideas dealing with the clandestine, subversive, loud, and unavoidable guises of street art. 

Booth states, “Because my previous work had included the “official” and “serious” materials of the artist, I actively sought the opposite with this recent body of work.  I used cruddy acrylic paints, kraft paints, paint pens and Sharpie markers. I also used the fascinating static vinyl that works like a sticker without adhesive, is totally clear and seems like a good vehicle for non-defacing graffiti.”

Booth’s paintings focus on isolated visual elements from her earlier work and also combine elements of street and public art.

Booth holds a master’s of fine art degree in painting from the University of Delaware (2007) and a bachelor’s of fine art in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Art (1993).  She also attended Mary Baldwin College’s (1988) Program for the Exceptionally Gifted (PEG).  She is currently instructor of art at Southeast Missouri State University.

Booth maintains an active exhibition record of solo, group, juried and invitational exhibitions.  Selected exhibitions include Feminine Perspective, Black Door Gallery; Comments Series, Street Art Project; Art Faculty Exhibition at River Campus Art Gallery, Southeast Missouri State University; Missouri Art Professors’ Show at Columbia Arts League; Pictocrypt at University Art Gallery, Truman State University; small works at lo-fi gallery; Addressing Iraq at Reitz Union Gallery, University of Florida; ArtHappens VI: the return of art at Studio Arts Gallery, University of Delaware; Secret Spaces at Hanover Arts and Activities Center.

The Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
