MISSISSIPPIAN CONFERENCE 2013—CRISP MUSEUM

The 2013 Mississippian Conference will be held at Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On-site registration and assembly will be from 8:00-8:40, and there is a $5.00 registration fee at the door.
Presentations begin at 8:45 and will be 15 minutes each. Presenters should bring their PowerPoint presentations on memory sticks or discs. Crisp Museum will provide the laptop and projector and will load your programs in the morning or during breaks.

The panel will serve as an introduction to the art world, providing insight into the world of collecting from many different viewpoints. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the benefits of collecting art, both intellectual and financial, and how to take the first steps.
Panelists include: Shelley Hagen, Curator of the Wells Fargo Collection; Peter Nguyen, Director of Crisp Museum; Sarah Riley, Professor of Art at Southeast and art collector; and Greig Thompson, Principal of Thompson Fine Art Services, Harrisburg, Mo. (more)

Wendy Cooper’s talk discusses Andy Warhol’s role and intentions as an artist and the use of mass production in several kinds of mechanical media. She points out Warhol’s ability to direct viewers’ perceptions of everyday objects and see everything in this society is a commodity. (more)
