CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 2, 2008 -- The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Southeast Missouri Regional Museum is hosting a lecture, “Cape Girardeau: Then and Now,” at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
Admission is free.
Tom Neumeyer, owner and operator of Neumeyer Photography, will present the lecture. Neumeyer’s lecture will highlight his photographic exhibit currently on display in the River Campus Art Gallery in the Seminary Building until Jan. 11. Neumeyer has been making photographs since high school, using his father’s 1954 folding Ansco camera, processing them in a basement darkroom. He went on to work in the print media as a photojournalist, writer and as a newspaper editor. Neumeyer’s present work involves creating images in wedding and portrait work, as well as commercial assignments. He works with both film and digital capture processes.
Neumeyer earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He has served two terms as Cape Girardeau City Councilman and continues to serve on the city’s Parks and Recreation Foundation along with the Cape Girardeau Friends of the Library Foundation.
In 2004, Neumeyer co-authored the book, “Historic Cape Girardeau; An Illustrated History” with Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Center for Regional History, and Dr. Joel Rhodes, assistant professor of history. Several years ago, he produced his first photo-documentary, a study of the rural elderly in cooperation with the Missouri Humanities Council. Neumeyer’s new book, Cape Girardeau: Then and Now, pairing images of the past and present, will be published in spring 2008 by the University's Center for Regional History.
