CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 31, 2008 – The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Southeast Missouri Regional Museum will sponsor a lecture on the “Deindustrialization of America,” April 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus.

The presentation will be given by Dr. Eric Clements, associate professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University. In his lecture, “Cold Iron: Deindustrialization and the Art of Cindy Tower,” Clements will discuss several of the industries that Tower has depicted in her current exhibition, “Cindy Tower: Workplace Series,” at the Crisp Museum. Clements also will consider some of the consequences, positive and negative, of the deindustrialization of America in the past 40 years.

Clements is a historian of the American West who specializes in resource extraction, transportation and tourism. He is the author of “After the Boom in Western Resource Towns,” which discusses the deindustrialization of those communities. Clements’ lecture is free and open to the public.
