Cahokia Mounds Official to Present 'Ancient Faces of Eastern North America' Lecture

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 11, 2009 –“Ancient Faces of Eastern North America" will be the topic of a lecture March 31 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Iseminger’s lecture will focus on how human effigy artifacts give insight into the appearance of several prehistoric cultural traditions of American Indians. He also will discuss the relationship upon which effigies reflect the belief systems and cultural traditions of their creators by their use of pottery, copper, stone, wood, clothing, adornment, body decoration and hairstyles.

Iseminger has a bachelor of art degree in anthropology from the University of Oklahoma, and a master of art degree in anthropology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He has written extensively on Cahokia Mounds for both professional and popular publications, including ARCHAEOLOGY magazine.
