The graduate program in music at Southeast Missouri State University is designed for students seeking the Master of Music in Education degree or course work for re-certification. The program provides students with opportunities to improve their basic musicianship through performance and analysis of music literature, to increase their professional preparation for teaching, and to provide for scholarly growth in areas of special interest.

Admission to the Masters in Music Education Program (M.M.E.)
Regular Admission
An applicant will be granted regular admission to the M.M.E. program if he/she:
- Holds the B.M.E, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, the B.S. in Education with a major in music education, or the B.A. in Music with an emphasis in music education and a valid teaching certificate;
- Has an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- Has completed successfully an applied music audition in his/her principal performance medium;
- Has completed successfully with a minimum score of 75 on a 100 point scale the departmental entrance examination in music theory.
Provisional Admission
An applicant will be granted provisional admission* to the M.M.E. program if he/she:
- Holds a baccalaureate degree in music but does not meet the degree requirements of the program and/or hold a valid teaching certificate;
- Is a senior in his/her last semester who is seeking admission for the subsequent semester;
- Has an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 but less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; or
- Has not completed successfully one or more of the entrance examinations (applied music or music theory).
*Applicants granted provisional admission to the program are not eligible for departmental scholarship assistance and may be required to take remedial coursework to correct deficiencies in academic preparation or may be required to take Major Field Achievement Test in music and earn a total score at or above the 50th percentile of the national mean score.
