To be accepted into the music program at Southeast Missouri State University, students should apply for admission to the University. Visit the Web site for the Office of Admissions. You may contact University admissions by phone at (573) 651-2590. Schedule a campus tour by using our online reservation process. If you would like faculty in the music department to contact you, please fill out our online questionnaire.
After you have been accepted by the University, contact the Department of Music to schedule an audition. If you intend to pursue studies as a music major, you must perform an audition to be accepted into our program. As a music major, you may choose from a variety of degree programs including music education, music performance (dependent on performance level), music composition or the more generic bachelor of arts degree in music. You will then declare your major by completing the ‘Declaration of Major’ form from the College of Liberal Arts.
Students who are deficient in any of the aforementioned areas will be granted provisional admittance to the Department of Music and must enroll in the following courses: entry level of applied music lessons, music theory, aural skills, functional piano and a major ensemble. Students who are admitted provisionally may reapply for regular admission to the Department of Music after the successful completion of the first semester and the resolution of any deficiencies.
