Music Education

Undergraduate degrees which provide certification to teach in the state of Missouri are available in the following areas: 

  • Instrumental Music K-12
  • Vocal Music K-12
  • Instrumental Music K-12 plus Piano (double major)
  • Vocal Music K-12 plus Piano (double major)

Enrolling in the music education program provides specialization in either the vocal or instrumental areas and includes coursework from the College of Education.  Additional requirements include at least four (4) semesters participation in a large ensemble (Golden Eagles Marching Band, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, University Choir, Southeast Symphony) as well as presentation of a senior recital. 

Carol McDowell supervises the Southeast music education program whose faculty members include: Robert Conger, John Egbert and Stephen Hendricks.
