Areas of Study
Music Education: Enrolling in the music education program provides specialization in either the vocal or instrumental areas and includes coursework from the College of Education. Completion of this degree track grants the student certification to teach in the state of Missouri.

Vocal: Solo Voice and Vocal Ensembles: Southeast offers a wide array of performing options in the area of voice including vocal master classes which are offered at least five times during each semester, performing with the Opera/Music Theater Workshop, as well as participating in vocal ensembles such as Cantus Choralis, University Choir and Choral Union. Voice lessons with our outstanding applied-voice faculty are available for majors and minors as well. Winds, Brass and Percussion: Students who play wind and percussion instruments are able to study with our excellent applied wind faculty as well as perform with a wide variety of ensembles. These include: Wind Symphony, Chamber Winds, Concert Band, Studio Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab, Golden Eagles Marching Band, Southeast Show Band, and the Percussion Ensemble. Strings: Students who play string instruments are able to study with our exceptional applied string faculty as well as perform with a broad assortment of ensembles. These include: University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, Chamber ensembles, and string masterclasses. Additionally, the Southeast Jazz bands are highly visible and very exciting ensembles for string bass or electric bass students. Keyboards and Guitar: Students who play piano, organ or guitar are able to study with our extraordinary applied faculty as well as perform as soloists or accompanists for other music students. Furthermore, these students can audition for the Studio Jazz Ensemble or play with the Southeast Guitar Ensemble.
