The University Choir a mixed ensemble made up of talented music majors and non-music majors and serves as the premiere choral ensemble at Southeast Missouri State University. The University Choir performs noteworthy choral repertoire from throughout the Western Music canon, with emphasis on unaccompanied works, recently composed works, and major works each semester performed with the Choral Union and Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra. The choir is conducted by Dr. Barbara Lamont, the new Director of Choral Activities at Southeast. She may be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rehearsal times are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. in the choral rehearsal room at the Dobbins River Campus Center (RCC 120). Music Majors concentrating in voice must participate in the University Choir as a major ensemble.
Auditions for the University Choir take place several times throughout the year, including the end of the spring semester for returning students and the beginning of the fall semester for new students. Should any opening occur, a spring semester audition may be scheduled at the end of the fall semester.
The University Choir was selected, by audition, to perform in a Master Class in the spring of 2014 at the St. Louis Cathedral with the “premiere men’s vocal ensemble in the United States” - Cantus. In the spring of 2013, the U Choir performed the Robert Ray Gospel Mass with the composer conducting the performance at Southeast’s River Campus.
