The Choral Union is a mixed choir comprised of both student and community members. Its primary role is to serve as a symphonic chorus performing major choral works each semester with the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra. This semester, the Choral Union, along with the University Choir and the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra, will be presenting a commissioned work celebrating the 10th anniversary of the River Campus at Southeast. The Choral Union will also be performing on the spring choral concert, “Global Voices,” with the University and Chamber Choirs.

Membership in the Choral Union is open to all experienced and confident singers. There is no required audition to sing in the Choral Union. The choir is conducted by Dr. Barbara Lamont, the new Director of Choral Activities at Southeast.

Choral Union rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. in room 120 of the Dobbins River Campus Center. All community singers in Choral Union must purchase their own scores and the price will be forthcoming.

For the spring semester 2017, Choral Union will begin rehearsing on Monday, January 23 and will meet each Monday of the semester except for Monday, March 13 (university spring break).

Recent masterworks performed by the Choral Union include the Vivaldi Gloria, James Mulholland’s Three 17th Century English Lyrics, the Mozart Vesperae solennes de Confessore (K339), the Fauré Requiem, the Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs, the Shaw/Bennett Many Moods of Christmas (suites one and three), the Haydn Harmoniemesse, the Schubert Mas in G, Perry’s Blest Pair of Sirens, Paul Basler’s Songs of Faith, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, as well as pieces especially commissioned for Southeast Missouri State University. Members of the Choral Union recently participated in the 2013 National Memorial Day Choral Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall in Washington, DC with the United States Air Force Symphony Orchestra.
