All concerts will take place in Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall. 

Gala Season Opener: Rhapsody in Blue Bedell  7:30 p.m. October 12, 2010

Internationally-acclaimed pianist and Gershwin expert, Jack Gibbons, returns to Cape Girardeau to delight and enchant concert goers with his amazing virtuosity! Jack will join the orchestra as the featured soloist in two celebrated works by George Gershwin: the Rhapsody in Blue and the Concerto in F Major (first movement).  Also on the program will be orchestral selections from Gershwin’s memorable opera, Porgy and Bess.  Enjoy fabulous piano playing and the jazzy sounds of the great American composer, George Gershwin!

Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony Bedell     7:30 p.m. December 7, 2010

Schubert’s famous Unfinished Symphony is a masterpiece of beautiful, lyrical symphonic music.   This concert will also feature the symphony orchestra with the University Choir and Choral Union in Mozart’s engaging choral work, the Coronation Mass, conducted by Dr. Steve Hendricks.

Serenade for Strings Bedell     7:30 p.m. March 1, 2011

This all-strings program presents special guest harp soloist, Juliette R. Buchanan, in two enchanting works for harp and strings: Debussy’s Danses and Grandjany’s Aria in Classic Style.  A Professor of Harp at Baylor University, Juliette has performed at the White House and at Carnegie Hall, and has studied harp with legendary harp teacher, Alice Chalifoux.  Also on the program will be the brilliant Concerto Grosso for multiple string orchestras by Vaughan Williams, with guest orchestras from the Cape School District performing with the Symphony.

Symphony Celebration Concert: Pictures! Bedell     7:30 p.m. March 28, 2011

This spectacular symphony concert will feature the combined forces of the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra and the Southern Illinois Symphony performing the thrilling Pictures at an Exhibition.  Joining the combined symphonies will be special guest violinist, the brilliant concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, David Halen, in the great Violin Concerto in G Minor by Romantic composer Max Bruch.

The Rutter Requiem

Bedell     7:30 p.m.

 May, 2011
 For this concert the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will once again be joined by the University Choir and Choral Union in a performance of English composer John Rutter’s beloved and ever-popular Requiem (conducted by Dr. Steve Hendricks).  Also featured on this program will be the student winner of the Concerto and Aria Competition, as well as the winner of the symphony’s new, pre-collegiate “Rising Star” competition.
