Christopher Goeke, tenor, is Professor of Music at Southeast. Dr. Goeke holds both the D.M.A. in vocal performance and pedagogy and M.M. in vocal performance from the University of Iowa. He is beginning his 25th year of teaching voice at Southeast and is also very active in opera directing and serving as technical coordinator for the full operatic productions at Southeast. Dr. Goeke is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and has served as the Missouri Governor for NATS and is currently the NATS Central Region Treasurer.                                                                                       

Dr. Goeke’s performance resume includes engagements with the Central City Opera in Colorado, the State Repertory Opera of New Jersey, Westchester Opera in New York, the Light Opera of Manhattan, Santa Fe Desert Choral, Cedar Rapids Symphony and the Bach Society of St. Louis. Some of his operatic roles include Almaviva in Il Barbieri di Siviglia, Tamino in The Magic Flute and Alfred and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus. He has been featured as tenor soloist for Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew Passion and the Magnificat, The Messiah by Handel, and The Creation by Haydn. 

Recently, the tenor appeared with the Southern Illinois Music Festival as Rudolphe in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell.  Goeke is an active recitalist and has presented a wide range of literature including lute songs, traditional art songs and song cycles in German, French, Italian and English, and contemporary literature including many works by Benjamin Britten and popular songs of the Broadway stage. Last season, Goeke performed Schubert’s masterpiece Winterreise with projected translations and art images as a backdrop.
