Kevin Hampton serves as Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music in the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast Missouri State University.  Previously, he served as Professor of Music at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia, where he taught studio piano, piano literature, piano pedagogy, and group keyboard classes, as well as courses in the music theory sequence.  He holds the Bachelor of Science degree from William Jewell College, the Master of Music degree from Drake University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Mr. Hampton was also a scholar of the Rotary Foundation International, and studied piano and harpsichord at the Conservatoire National in Toulouse, France.  

His recent appearances have included duo piano performances of the Bach double keyboard concerto in C minor with the Valdosta Symphony, Valdosta, Georgia, a lecture-recital for the state conference of the Georgia Music Teachers Association at Columbus State University, Columbus, Georgia, and a master class for the Georgia Music Educators Association State Conference.  

Active as a clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Hampton will return to Music Fest Northwest 2014 in Spokane, WA, as one of the piano judges and master class guest artists.  He has also presented at the MTNA national conference, and has presented regularly at the state conferences of the Georgia Music Teachers Association and the Georgia Music Educators Association.  During the Spring of 2013, Mr. Hampton served as a juror for the Hilton Head Island International Young Artists Piano Competition.  He has also served on the screening jury for the Hilton Head Island International Piano Competition, 1998 - 2001, as well as the finals jury, 2001.  He has also adjudicated for the state conventions of the Texas, Mississippi, and Colorado MTNA organizations, the state auditions of MTNA in Georgia, South Carolina, Colorado, Texas and Mississippi, and the state auditions of the GMEA.  Mr. Hampton served as chair of the piano division for the Georgia Music Educators Association, and as the Vice President of Programs for the Georgia Music Teachers Association.  

He has done extensive research on the stylistic evolution of composer, George Walker, the 1996 Pulitzer Prize winner in composition, through an examination of selected works for solo piano.  His dissertation research developed the first comprehensive biography of Walker, based on interviews with the composer.   Mr. Hampton continues to pursue research in pedagogical approaches for teaching students with joint laxity as well as Twentieth Century repertoire for piano four-hands.
