John Egbert Vocal Music Education Dr. John Egbert, associate professor of music and director of choral activities, has been a member of the faculty at Southeast Missouri State University since 1984. In addition to his conducting duties, he teaches choral conducting, choral literature, choral techniques, techniques of choral literacy and he supervises student teachers. He received his B.M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in choral music education from the University of Missouri. Dr. Egbert's choirs have presented convention performances for both the Missouri Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association ( 1998, 1991,1982 and 1981). Additionally, his Choral Union has performed with the Paducah and Nashville Symphony Orchestras. He has conducted such major works as Orff's Carmina Burana, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Rutter's Magnificat and Requiem, Handel's Messiah, and Haydn's Creation among many others. Prior to joining the faculty at Southeast, Egbert directed the choral music program in Crystal City, Mo., where his choirs won numerous awards and honors, including consecutive performances at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention. Dr. Egbert appears frequently as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, having been invited to conduct more than 150 professional choral activities across the country. He has held offices and appointments at the district, state and divisional levels. He is a member of MENC- The National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, and is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association.
