The major ensembles of the Music Department are as follows:
MU 389: Choral Union (open)
MU 386: Marching Band (open)
MU394: University Choir (by audition)
MU 390: Wind Symphony (by audition)
MU 392: Orchestra (by audition, and required of string majors)
MU 384: Guitar Ensemble (required of guitar majors, instructor permission)
MU 391: Concert Band (open)
All music majors are required to participate in one major ensemble each semester in residence as follows:
BA: a minimum of six (6) semesters (BA guitarists take four (4) semesters of Guitar Ensemble plus two (2) semesters of another major ensemble)
BME: a minimum of seven (7) semesters
BM: (performance): a minimum of eight (8) semesters
(BM guitar majors take six (6) semesters of Guitar Ensemble plus two (2) semesters of another major ensemble.)
(Keyboard majors may elect six (6) semesters of major ensemble and two semesters of Advanced Chamber Music and Accompanying)
BM: (composition): a minimum of six (6) semesters of MU383 plus a minimum of two (2) semesters in instrumental and two (2) semesters in vocal ensembles
Voice principals are required to participate in major vocal ensembles.
Woodwind and brass principals must participate in Concert Band or Wind Ensemble; orchestral strings principals are required to participate in University Orchestra.
Percussion majors must participate in Percussion Ensemble.
Keyboard principals (BM or BA degrees) will be assigned ensemble and/or accompanying experiences by the area faculty through the area coordinator. These experiences may include a combination of large instrumental and vocal ensembles, chamber ensembles and accompanying equal to the ensemble hours required on the degree program.
Keyboard and guitar principals (BME) are required to participate in major vocal or instrumental ensembles appropriate to their degree programs.
All ensembles will receive graded credit.
