Sally Carter
Kirksville, Mo. Missouri NASA Education Program

Sally received a B.A. in Speech Communication from Truman State University, and a B.A. in Elementary Education (with a science concentration) from Buena Vista University (Iowa).  She also holds a Missouri Teaching Certification for grades 1-6.

Sally has taught at the Schuyler R-1 School District (Queen City, MO) as a 5th grade science teacher.  Prior to her tenure at Schuyler, she taught middle school and high school in the Kirksville R-III Schools and language arts for grades 5-8 at Mary Immaculate Catholic School (Kirksville).

During her 11-year teaching tenure, Sally was very professionally active outside the classroom.  She has presented at many professional conferences, including Interface and MSTA among others, and has a publication related to the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP).  She also served leadership roles in the development and writing of science and health curricula as well as MAP and GLE implementation and assessment.  And somehow she found time to also serve as the CTA President her last two years at Schuyler.  Sally is, indeed, a meritorious teacher, not only in the eyes of her immediate colleagues, but also in the opinion of professionals outside of her region:  she was a state finalist for the 2005 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching; and she was featured in an 2005 article in School and Community entitled “Amazing Math, Sizzling Science: Tips From Some of Missouri’s Top Teachers.”
